KHALA

The scent of alpha and omega was almost overwhelming.

Until now, I had no idea how many of us there really were. Several hundred from the Winter and Autumn Courts, along with sixty former Silent Maidens and more alphas from the Summer Court.

We gathered in the yard outside the Winter Court Palace. Us and several contingents of archers. A few thousand more had swords on their backs and steely looks in their eyes.

Wherever their High Lord led, they would follow and fight.

"Are you ready?" Ryze laced his fingers through mine and kissed my temple.

"Is anyone truly ready for something like this?" I asked.

"They are." Tavian had a faraway look on his face. "I've been getting bits and pieces of visions all morning. Things keep changing. One keeps reoccurring, though. Patric telling Yala and me the time has come. Whoever's visions these are, they're not happy about any of this."

"Gavil," I said softly. "I don't know how, but I think somehow you're getting his visions." I quickly told them about him.

"He foresaw all of this," Ryze mused. "In his visions and in his lived experience. I wonder if he knows how it will all end."

"Badly for them," Cavan said confidently. "I wonder if he told them that and they ignored him." He looked sly.

"You're never going to let us forget that, are you?" Ryze asked.

Cavan smiled.

Ryze shook his head. "Get a portal open, man. We have a court to help."

Cavan smirked and opened a portal to the side of Nallis. He stood beside it, keeping it open while Vayne ordered his people to march through with him.

For someone who almost died a couple of hours ago, the army commander was looking surprisingly well. He was clearly tired, but he was too fucking stubborn to admit it. Not to mention the fact he wasn't going to sit out of a perfectly good, potential battle.

He gave me a quick kiss before he strode past and disappeared into the long tunnel to Nallis.

The alphas and omegas went next, followed by the former Silent Maidens. I walked with them, side-by-side with Hycanthe and Jezalyn. Rijal trailed along behind.

"Does anyone else think this is a bad idea?" Hycanthe asked.

"It's your court too," I pointed out. "Unless you can convince them to stop?"

"She would if she could," Jezalyn said. She gripped Hycanthe's hand tightly.

"Yes, I would," Hycanthe agreed. "Also, I take no responsibility for what they do. I had no idea I had anything to do with them."

"I know you didn't," I said gently. No more than Tavian did. Blood didn't always equate to influence.

"Be ready," someone shouted from up the front.

A rumble came from behind and I turned back to see Zared push his way through to me.

"I wish I could throw you over my shoulder and take you away from here," he said. He slipped his hand into mine.

"Funny, I could say the same to you," I said lightly. "I'm sure I could carry you if I had to."

He smiled. "I'd like to see you try. In fact, let's go back to the Winter Court and do that right now.
